This species has a yellow head and tail, while most of the body is black. Adults have purple "lips" and blue around the eye. Small juveniles are yellow with a black spot in the center of the body. This species does poorly in captivity long term. Offer foods that are specially formulated for angelfishes that contain sponge. Although this fish usually eats well for months, giving the appearance that they're doing well, while they will almost always ultimately starve to death, despite eating until they die. Young rock beauties will nip the slime off of other fishes and may persistently chase their tankmates.
