Large Adult French angelfish are dark overall, with gold or yellow scale margins, and a lighter gray head. Juveniles are black with yellow stripes, with a tail that is black with a yellow margin. (The juveniles of the grey angelfish [Pomacanthus arcuatus] do not have the yellow margin around the entire caudal fin.) Most French Angels collected for the trade have the yellow stripes unless they are very large, approximtely 6-8" or larger. The French Angelfish is a very hardy aquarium fish. This species should be provided with a varied diet, which should include lots of vegetable matter. Juveniles are cleaners and will sometimes pester species that are less mobile than they are. They can also display aggression toward other fish species that are similar in shape or that are introduced after the angelfish has become established in their aquarium home.
